Next Generation SMR: The Active Target™
The latest invention in laser tracking technology: API´s Active Target™ incredibly improves the use of Laser Tracker. For the first time target tracking technologies are used to work together with active SMR to speed up your measurements tasks. This functionality greatly enhances the ADM feature of modern API Laser Trackers.

Automatic target tracking: How it works
The Active Target™ itself acts in a similar fashion to a standard repeatability SMR (Spherically Mounted Retro reflector) target. However, the Active Target™ has the advantage of automatically positioning the reflector, so that it is always facing the laser instrument.

Active Target™ advantages:

• The Active Target™ pursues the laser beam regardless of its movement or orientation in space. The beam is not lost even with quick and uncontrolled movements of the hand-guided active SMR.
• By automatically moving the reflector, the Active Target™ can be used to measure long rails, as well as the movements of vehicles and robots.
• The Active Target™ will automatically track the position of CMMs and CNC machining equipment without manual user invention.

Perfect interaction: Active Target™ and API Laser Trackers
The Active Targett™ perfectly cooperates with API Laser Trackers to quickly execute complex measurement tasks. The major functions of the Active Target™ are automatic and require no user intervention. The laser beam is sent via the Laser Tracker; therefore the user can concentrate on the measurement task.

Immediate operation

API's Active Target™ can be directly mounted to a machine tool or fixture directly by using the mounting holes. The Active Target™ is designed for use in a machine shop environment and is powered by an AC power supply or an optional battery pack.

Employment with Laser Trackers from other suppliers

The Active Target™ is designed to work with the ADM features of most modern API laser instruments. It is technically possible to use the Active Target™ with an instrument that only uses an interferometer, but it requires a special tool which is not included with the package.
