As Nissan prepared its latest factories for production, it turned to API’s Galaxy Series Multi-Function CMM Machine to meet its needs in measurement and marking components, and checking tools. It chose the Galaxy CMM machines for their excellent performance and highly cost-effective operation.

An API Galaxy-H multifunctional CMM machine can be found in three areas of the Aguascalientes plant: the stamping shop, the body shop and the breaking test examination room. Galaxy H machines are in use simultaneously in each area for a different purpose. In the body shop, a double-configuration of the machine is installed, and this can maximize the performance advantages of the Galaxy-H. NISSAN uses the double configuration machines to measure and mark the white body and check its tools.

It is a perfect substitution for the inefficient traditional checking tools, such as the parallel box. Nissan engineers needed the Galaxy-H to do a final exam of the car body just as it was complete.
For some manufacturers, this deadline would be worrisome; the installation of measurement systems or quality inspection equipment can takes an extended period of time for calibration and accuracy checks. The calibration process alone includes the general adjustment, calibration, re-calibration, fine-tuning, and repeatability test, among other tasks.
