ROCKVILLE, MD and Heidelberg, Germany — Automated Precision Inc. (API), a world leader in advanced measurement solutions, and MTorres, a worldwide industrial group of companies that manufactures systems for industrial processes automation, announced that they have signed an OEM contract on volumetric compensation of machine tools. MTorres will use API ́s groundbreaking and proven VEC™ solution, a breakthrough calibration method that allows manufacturers to improve production accuracy and maintain the tightest tolerances of MTorres' high-end 5- and 6-axis machine tools. “VEC™ ensures that high-performance machines from MTorres will always machine with maximum precision, based on an optimal calibration. This is an essential advantage, particularly in the aerospace sector, where maximum manufacturing precision is required.“ said Marc Keinert, General Manager of API Europe. Because MTorres has global installations, and the initial VEC™ installations will take place in both Europe and the Americas, API U.S. and Europe worked together to provide the solution. Indeed, a global approach is critical in industries such as the aviation sector. MTorres is one of the main suppliers of machine tools to customers that include Airbus, Boeing, Eurocopter, Northrop Grumman, EADS and Bombardier Aerospace. MTorres has opted for API after extensive machine tests, since no other system can even approximately achieve their needed accuracy. Another reason MTorres has selected API’s VEC™ solution is that expensive machine downtime can be reduced to a fraction compared to conventional methods. By virtue of recording the toolpath with VEC™ within the entire working volume in a single pass, more complex 5 - and 6-axis machines with rotary tables and axes can be calibrated easily and quickly. "Test results have confirmed a considerably higher accuracy of compensated machine tools with the use of VEC™, and these results are achieved in a fraction of the time compared to traditional methods," said David Maxham, API’s Director of Global Marketing and Sales MTorres is one of the main suppliers of machine tools, with major customers such as Airbus, Boeing, Spirit Aerosystems, Northrop Grumman, EADS, etc. A great share in the production of the new Airbus 380 and 350 is to be attributed to MTorres machine tools at production sites.
