ROCKVILLE, MD – Automated Precision Inc. (API), a leading provider of mobile measurement systems for industrial use, announced today that it has released a Surphaser high-accuracy scanner branded under its own name.
Called the API Hemispherical Scanner or “Hemi-S,” the new instrument will make its public debut at the IMTS Show opening Sept. 10 at the McCormick Center in Chicago.
This collaboration gives API users another tool for measurement tasks, particularly those that require complex 3-D models. The Surphaser scanner is often used to reverse-engineer objects of mid-size range, including cars, planes, military vehicles, boats and buildings. API Services, the service arm of Automated Precision, has recently expanded into building scanning, and even provided the equipment to scan a 17th century Virginia church, one of the oldest buildings in the United States. Using the Surphaser, the API Services team scanned the interior and exterior of the old church in a matter of hours, whereas other methods of reverse-engineering would have taken far longer.
“API’s competitive strength is its superior quality, which means that we rarely accept another manufacturer’s products as up to our standards. But Surphaser’s accuracy and ease of use make it a natural complement to API’s suite of laser interferometer trackers and machine tool calibration products” said API Chief Operating Officer Joe Bioty.
The new Hemi-S features a 360-by-270-degree view and is capable of taking up to 800,000 points per second. Different models are sold for short, medium and long-range distances. Its portability and ease-of-use allow it to be taken to almost any type of work site for scanning work.
Automated Precision Inc. is part of AP Group, a global innovator of precision measurement and controls.
